Correction of IF Spurious Tones

The following simple procedure can significantly reduce the ripple

due to spurious tones:

1. Measure the IF output signal with RF present.

2. Calculate the complex fast Fourier transform (FFT) frequency

component at the IF output frequency.

3. Measure the IF output signal with the RF signal off or set to a

low level.

4. Calculate the frequency component at the IF frequency for this

case.

5. Subtract the result obtained in Step 4 from the result in Step 2.

6. Apply error correction and further processing to the result of

Step 5).

The order of the steps described can be changed, and the frequen-

cy sweep without RF signal can be stored in the memory for

correction of future measurements.
