Inadditiontothepower-onreset,situationsmayarisewhereitisnecessarytoforcefullyapplya resetconditionwhenthemicrocontrollerisrunning.Oneexampleofthisiswhereafterpowerhas beenappliedandthemicrocontrollerisalreadyrunning,theRESlineisforcefullypulledlow.In suchacase,knownasanormaloperationreset,someoftheregistersremainunchangedallowing themicrocontrollertoproceedwithnormaloperationaftertheresetlineisallowedtoreturnhigh. AnothertypeofresetiswhentheWatchdogTimeroverflowsandresetsthemicrocontroller.All typesofresetoperationsresultindifferentregisterconditionsbeingsetup.Anotherresetexistsin theformofaLowVoltageReset,LVR,whereafullreset,similartotheRESresetisimplementedin situationswherethepowersupplyvoltagefallsbelowacertainthreshold. Reset Functions Thereareseveralwaysinwhichamicrocontrollerresetcanoccur,througheventsoccurringboth internallyandexternally: Power-on Reset Themostfundamentalandunavoidableresetistheonethatoccursafterpowerisfirstappliedto themicrocontroller.AswellasensuringthattheProgramMemorybeginsexecutionfromthefirst memoryaddress,apower-onresetalsoensuresthatcertainotherregistersarepresettoknown conditions.AlltheI/Oportandportcontrolregisterswillpowerupinahighconditionensuringthat allpinswillbefirstsettoinputs. |
